Space Equity Powers Us All

 THE SITUATION

According to research, Black and Latinx American wealth is projected to fall to zero by 2053 and 2073, respectively. Suggesting that economically distressed communities are not included in the development of the forecasted 2030 trillion dollar space economy.

This new space economy will consist of a wide range of business types supplying the necessities of the new frontier, thus providing opportunities for all types of entrepreneurs. However, there is a gap between resources and historically excluded communities, who are currently not taking a significant role in the creation and ownership of it.

The time for action is now. If there is no action, these historically excluded communities will be left behind.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We believe that by including diverse voices in the space community we can create an equitable future for all people and change that  projected trajectory of wealth.

The Equity Space Alliance is creating a system that closes the gap, delivering diversity of ownership  and equity across the industry.

Developing equity means developing interest, talent, and ownership from historically underrepresented communities. We are an organization focused on ensuring equity in the space economy is distributed among a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.

Space revolutionist, strategy consultant, serial/social entrepreneur, and advocate for intellectual property, social justice, and generational wealth. The daughter of two formerly incarcerated individuals; at 16 she and her brother of 6 were introduced into the world of what it meant to experience hardship, not knowing it would be a catalyst in helping her fulfill her purpose. 14 years later, two degrees, a certificate, and a contracting job with the National Aeronautics Space Agency (NASA), Janeya’s passion for problem-solving and establishing connections would turn her into a lead Technology Transfer Specialist Contractor and an Executive Board Member for Federal Labs all over the country. After NASA, she shifted focus to The Commercializer®, LLC a strategic commercialization firm helping inventors, entrepreneurs, and institutions take ideas from mind to market, including bridging the gap between resources and historically excluded communities. In addition, she Co-founded ConCreates, a creative agency focused on changing the stigma and narrative of how society views people with criminal histories and how people with criminal histories view themselves. Lastly, she founded the Equity Space Alliance to advocate and ensure the new space economy is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible.

Bio - De’Schzunell’s love for space and passion for helping disadvantaged groups gain equity and achieve socio-economic empowerment stems from his adverse background. As a child, DJ dreamed of working for NASA and fell in love with aerospace. That passion pulled him out of poverty and allowed him to persevere through life’s most daunting challenges. To him, the infinite nature of Space is symbolic of the infinite possibilities that can be achieved in life regardless of the circumstances under which someone was born. Space fueled him to attain many respectable accomplishments in his early life, today he sees it as an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people worldwide. He now wants to use Space to tackle the socio-economic disparity that challenged his family in his childhood and plagues so many people globally.

De’Schzunell studied Applied Physics at Morehouse College, received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Antelope Valley, a Master of Global Management with a concentration in Space Leadership, Business, and Policy at Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a Certification in Venture Finance from UC Berkeley School of Law. At NASA he worked to create a Black Employee Resource Group and has led teams in Aerospace Research and Development, Earth Science, and Space Science. He has flown on over 50 SOFIA Space Science flights and took part in the mission that discovered water on the sunlit surface of the moon. Outside of NASA he works as an advocate for education in STEM at local schools and socio-economic empowerment through his work in the community.
